Description
The Crusaders are the followers of Adon. Through their worship of and devotion to Him and His teachings they are granted skills and spells. They work to fight evil wherever it is found in the world. They are mortal enemies of the Dustmen and their dark god, Aravan. They are also sworn enemies of the Red Disciples and their god, Ivr Kamba.

Going into the last room at the top of the stairs, if you have gained any Heretic, you will be auto attacked by the Silver Knight.

Heretic
Crusader skill effectiveness, failure rate is effected by Adon's approval of your conduct, generally known as 'heretic level'
When Adon's opinion of you changes for the better, you will receive this message: Adon whispers to you: You have done well to rid the world of that evil soul. Continue to spread My word to those who need it.
Adon's opinion of you can also change for the worse, by killing a good creature (monster or player), attacking a fellow crusader or being idle in the crusade against evil.
Your current heretic level can be queried in the Crusader stronghold, n d w from the Silver Knight.

You will need to grind heretic levels as a Crusader
My understanding is there is a small chance of Adon whispering to you (which basically reflects your heretic level has slightly improved) for each Undead kill and this chance is slightly improved the higher threat level the Undead is to you.
Clerics can slightly increase their chances by unwielding (and thus increase the threat level) and killing Undead using Turn Undead
