Armor Restrictions
Information from Dorf regarding Armor Restrictions 1st Octobor 2010
There have been a lot of questions regarding the armor restrictions for the Padawan / Sith / Jedi guilds, so I would like to help you all out with an explanation of what works and what doesn't.
You need not be concerned so much with physical weight. A Jedi (and Sith, and Padawan) must enjoy freedom of movement. Therefore, you'll want to pay attention to the materials used in the construction of your gear.
Padawan are restricted to soft materials like cloth, fur, and leather. You might be able to find gear made from stranger materials, like wood or plastic.
Jedi (and Sith) have a few more options. With your advanced training, you can tolerate additional semi-flexible materials like bone, elven steel, Ebony AND IVOOORYYYYY!...
Ahem, sorry about that.
You might find a few more materials that work as well. Share your discoveries, or horde them like treasures. Just know that you won't be able to wear steel armor no matter how magically lightened it may be. I hope that helps you in your search for usable gear.

for Jedi, choice between Saber Balance, Saber Defence and Saber Speed is personal preference, I ended up focusing on Saber Speed mainly on the basis that a good defence is a good Offense

Main skills to focus on (besides training up to get through the initial gaintlet to learn a little of the skills) are Saber Tech, Force Push and Staff/Light Sword.
Force Pull is useful if you are trying to disarm a mob (and thus make it do less damage)
Force Push works on most initial mobs and basically acts as a combat delay against the mob allowing you an initial period of free attacks so you end up using it a lot (until at higher evals a lot of mobs you fight is hard to get Force Push to work)
Force Agility can be useful for bonus dex/dodge.
Never really bothered with Force Levitate and Force Throw
